Long before Columbus sailed and the Spanish Conquistadores arrived there were flourishing indigenous civilisation in the America. In Central Mexico was the great city of Teotihuacan and later came the group known as the Toltecs. In comparison the Aztecs were late-comers on the scene having migrated around 1300 from what is now the southern USA. But within a century or so they had established themselves as the dominant power in Mexico and created a great empire. Then out of the Caribbean Sea the ships of the Spanish arrived and the Aztec Empire was overthrown. This course tells the story of the indigenous Mexicans up to arrival of Cortez.
